Justine and Zach are the kind of couple you can’t help but love! Their wedding was a perfect reflection of them, simple with an elegant flair. The two were married on a private ranch in Virginia, against a view of woodland mountains that seem to be painted on the horizon. The layers of Justine’s Sarah Seven gown danced in the wind as they said their vows, and her organic bouquet with shades of purple, made for a lovely color pop against the dark greens around us. The reception was one of the most unique I have experienced. Guests sat “family style” and dined solely by the glow of hundreds of candles; it was perfectly intimate! Read more on Style Me Pretty!

Veritas Charlottesville wedding inspiration on fuji 400h film by Shannon MoffitWhen first approaching the Veritas Winery, there was no doubt in our minds that this shoot needed to feel deeply inspired by the serene scenery and lush landscape of a Charlottesville vineyard. Nestled on the edge of the Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains, the vista is so breathtaking, it seems to be painted on the horizon. The details chosen reflect and showcase a classically elegant vision: slate grey lettering paired with wild branches and natural paper, a plunging lace and chiffon gown, and locally foraged greenery and flowers. We embraced all the green around us!Rebecca Schoneveld dress shot on fuji 400h film by Shannon Moffitorganic calligraphy invitation suite shot on fuji 400h film by Shannon MoffitOrganic vineyard wedding table setting inspiration shot on fuji 400h film by Shannon Moffitorganic vineyard wedding table setting inspiration shot on fuji 400h film by Shannon MoffitOrganic vineyard wedding table setting inspiration shot on fuji 400h film by Shannon MoffitOrganic vineyard wedding table setting inspiration shot on fuji 400h film by Shannon MoffitVineyard film wedding inspiration at Veritas Winery in Charlottesville Virginia, photo by Shannon MoffitVineyard wedding cake inspiration shot on fuji 400h by Shannon MoffitRebecca schoneveld dress shot at Veritas Winery in Charlottesville Virginia by Shannon Moffit

Gorgeous taupe-colored sand, shallow rocks, and quiet waves make up the beaches of Virginia Beach. For this styled elopement, we wanted to highlight the uniqueness and simplicity of the Virginia coastline and inspire couples who may not live in the most picturesque locations. First Landing State Park is a perfect representation of the Virginia coast, complete with grass-covered dunes and shallow beach inlets; this beach is not fancy or famous, but still beautiful in it’s own way. It was very important for us to reflect the feel of the beach, while also staying true to a fine art aesthetic.

From Tram Alvarado Events: “Inspiration for this shoot came from the Virginia Beach coast, where I currently call home. I will never get tired of the windswept shorelines and calming waves. For this shoot, I imagined a couple in an intimate setting, showcasing their love for one other with no distractions. Rocks and an open field overlooking the water served as the perfect location. I wanted the color palette to consist of beachy blues and grays, keeping all details simple. The gown chosen was a stunning Claire Pettibone, with a high neck and delicate lace.”

It is no secret that boudoir photography is becoming more popular. Two years ago, brides would sit in my office and say, “boud-what?” But as of this year, about 75% of my 2016 brides have already done or have scheduled a boudoir session, making for a 400% increase from 2015. I have put a considerable amount of time into mastering the art of creating a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere for shooting boudoir sessions and it has certainly paid off. Here are a few of my tried and tested methods of to create timeless, soft, and beautiful boudoir images:

Choosing the Space

The wonderful thing about boudoir sessions is that they can be done almost anywhere. There are a few things I look for, since I shoot these sessions on film: (1) privacy, (2) light colored walls, if inside, (3) an uncluttered space, (4) a limited color palette, and (5) at least one window for natural light. The majority of the time I will rent a local studio space, but other options include renting a hotel room or a room at a bed and breakfast, or asking to use a bridal prep room at a wedding venue (these photos were taken in a private and small bridal prep room at Veritas Winery in Virginia).
